Mary Davies is an established independent artist who began her career working in Europe working alongside directors and choreographers in theatre-based dance.
As a freelance artist she teaches and choreographs within the community and continues to deliver a variety of projects.
Until recently Mary’s role within DanceEast, regional dance agency for the east of England, was as artistic director for performance companies Encore East and Dance Unlimited. She continues to deliver independently as a choreographer, movement facilitator and movement coach and is co-director for Max & Wayne Dance Theatre.
In 2021 Mary was invited back to mentor members of Encore East in their choreographic explorations.

Mary’s early career took her to Europe where she developed an interest in dance theatre developing her skills as a choreographer. When touring with companies including The Cholmondeleys and Earthfall Dance Company, she began showcasing her work, Step21.
Her career consists largely of making and sharing work within the community and most recent collaborations have involved animation, film, poetry, actors, community and professional dancers and musicians. On large-scale projects, she has delivered for Ipswich Choral Society, Wayne McGregor, UNIT and New Art Club. She has also worked with Maresa von Stockert and Rachael Nanyanjo.
In 2019 she completed an Art Therapy and Wellbeing Foundation course at Hertfordshire University.
In 2021 Mary gained an MA in movement directing and teaching for actors from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. Practical sessions on Macbeth and placements on Hamlet and Sticks and Stones gave her access to skilled actors and movement practitioners, some of whom she has invited into the studio for movement research and project development, 2022
Europium-8 Poems for Women
As a performer Mary has recently returned from Cologne performing with Theatre TKO, directed by Nada Kokotovic. Journeying through the basement of a derelict building the audience were witness to eight movement and text-based solos performed by artists from across Europe.

Delights of Labyrinth
Rehearsals held between Mary and Greek Theatre Director, Chryssoula Nissianaki, took place remotely in August and September 2020. The movement explorations were inspired by classical Greek mythology and modern day concerns of parenthood. Delights of Labyrinth is a work in progress and will be continued in 2022.
